Nimble learners also enjoy mistakes, and that’s because they view mistakes as an opportunity to learn and grow. If a hypothesis fails to correct a problem, they don’t give up, they work on coming up with a new hypothesis. Nimble learners are like scientists, and what I mean by this is that they run experiments. You need to be able to adapt to new problems in a moment's notice. In short, we must be nimble learners.įlexibility and adaptability are two essential elements for today's modern worker. We need to be open to new suggestions, and not be afraid to make mistakes. We need to be flexible, but beyond that, we need to apply flexibility to deeper questions. We are being asked to solve problems that haven’t occurred yet, problems that are completely outside the scope of anything we have experienced. Global markets, big data, artificial intelligence, and machine learning are just a few of the trends that have had a massive impact on the nature of work. This need is magnified by the fact that we are moving through a period of enormous change. Organizations are looking for employees who can think on their feet, apply what they have learned to new events, and come up with solutions to difficult problems. Today, we are being called more often to solve problems that we’ve never before experienced. Repetitive tasks may have worked for the industrial-age employee, but it won’t get you far in the current working environment. ![]() ![]() Most employees are really good at applying learned behaviors or skills, but things can get tricky when they are asked to do something new.
